A Taste of Freedom

The taste of freedom is “lighter.” It doesn’t have the same heavy-strong sensations as red pepper, cumin, chili, cheese, meat, pizza, grinders, hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream, cakes-cookies-pastries, etc. The taste of freedom comes to your mind and your tongue when you “STCC—15X.” That is, when you Sit, Chew your food, and Count it 15 times (STCC-15X) you begin to note the lighter freer flavor of your whole grains-whole grain pastas-stone ground whole grain sourdough breads, 3 minute quick boiled salad, bean soups and stews, and fruit.

As a matter of fact if you chew any food 15 times, you get more of a taste even if it is pizza, ice cream, cheese or hamburgers. Try to recall that taste lies in the four inches of your tongue, and the sooner you “shovel it down” the quicker the taste is lost. The longer you mix the food in your mouth and think about it, the more you begin to reflect on your life, what you are doing, and what you should be doing.

It is naturally easy to “fall down” and not exert the effort required to stand up to your own internal natural drives to have high levels of sensation-thrill like meat, cheese, eggs, cigarettes-alcohol— heroin-cocaine (all of which belong in the same category). It takes more thought, concentration, maturity and consideration to eat as you are supposed to, to be kind, have a positive attitude, accept the difficulties of life, drink water and Bancha or Kukicha tea, not smoke and walk 3-5 miles 5 days a week, ever grateful for the opportunity-weather whatever that weather or opportunity is.
